The Chicago New Play Incubator announces its inaugural season at the Fine Arts Building taking place for four weekends in the fall of 2025.   WHO The Chicago New Play Incubator has one purpose; to give Chicago playwrights an opportunity to hear their new works read aloud in a professional reading. We see this as a critical step towards production. WHAT The Chicago New Play Incubator seeks original completed scripts which need a professional staged reading in order to foster the development of a full production. All Chicago playwrights are invited to submit their full-length completed plays for consideration. We aspire to support diverse, artistic voices. On the day of the reading, each selected playwright will receive a $1000 seed money grant to provide for assembling their production team, (i.e., actors, director, staff and audience) they feel necessary to mount their reading. Rehearsal space is provided on the Saturday and Sunday before the reading of their new play at the Little Theatre of the Fine Arts Building. Each staged reading will be followed by a talk back inspiring convivial discussion and engagement with the playwrights. Selected playwrights will be notified by September 1st. The Chicago New Play Incubator retains NO rights to selected works. This award is meant specifically to foster the process of new play development for the Chicago theatre community.
